ReadMini measures how much of a piece of writing is worth reading. This page says what that involves for your data. OffbeatPort operates ReadMini.
What you give us
Your account. You need an account to analyse something; reading a result someone shared with you does not. You sign in with Google, Apple or GitHub, or with your email and a password. We keep your email address and, when you sign in with Google, Apple or GitHub, the name and profile picture they share. If you use a password, we store only a salted hash of it. We use your email only to sign you in, to send a password reset link when you ask for one and, if you subscribe, for billing.
Public web addresses. When you submit a URL, ReadMini fetches that public page from our servers, without your cookies or credentials, and extracts the article text. Results for public URLs can be opened by anyone who has the link. They are marked so search engines do not index them.
Pasted text. Text you paste is private to you. Its result is never public, never indexed and never listed anywhere. Only your account can open it.
Problems you flag. If you use "Flag a problem" on a result, what you write is stored with that result.
How long we keep things
- Article text fetched from a public page is kept for at most 24 hours, so the Reading and Writing views can show it. After that it is deleted, and fetched again from the publisher when someone opens the result. The analysis itself is kept: the score, the summary and key points, the shortened version and the passages each decision quotes.
- Pasted text is kept in full for 30 days, then deleted. Its private result stays in your history until you remove it or delete your account. That result includes the shortened version of your text and the passages each decision quotes.
- Each analysis that uses your allowance leaves a small usage record: your account, the analysis, which allowance it used and when. Records of free analyses also carry a keyed hash of your normalised email address, and are kept for as long as your account exists; records of paid-plan analyses are kept for 365 days. If you delete your account, its records lose the link to you and are deleted once they are 365 days old, so deleting and re-creating an account does not reset the free allowance. ReadMini does not use your IP address or a browser fingerprint for allowances.
- Each signed-in session stores the IP address and browser it was started from, to help keep your account safe. A session is deleted when you sign out, when it expires or when you delete your account.
- Product events, such as a result being opened, are recorded with a random visitor id and, when you are signed in, your account. They never contain article or pasted text. Deleting your account removes the link to you.
- Guest sessions from before an account was required are deleted after 90 days without use.
Who else processes it
- AI models. Article and pasted text is sent to language models through OpenRouter to produce the analysis. We ask OpenRouter to route only to providers that do not store or train on it.
- Google, Apple and GitHub, when you choose to sign in with them.
- Stripe handles payments. We never see your card details.
- Resend delivers password reset emails.
- Sentry receives error reports. We send identifiers and hashes, never article or draft text.
- Publishers. Images in an article load directly from the publisher's site, which sees your IP address and browser as it would for any image on the web. ReadMini does not tell it which page you were reading.
We do not sell data, show ads or use tracking pixels.
Cookies and storage
- A session cookie keeps you signed in.
- A random visitor cookie lets us count usage and see whether people come back. It holds no personal information and is not used for allowances.
- Your reading settings (typeface, size, width, theme, tone, what to show and reading length) are stored in your browser. If you are signed in, all of them except reading length are also saved to your account.
- While you sign in, the article or text you entered is kept in your browser for up to an hour, so the analysis can start as soon as you are in.
Your choices
- Remove history. On the History page you can remove single items or clear it all. A removed public result disappears from your history; a removed pasted text is deleted.
- Delete your account. On the Account page. It deletes your account, history, pasted text and settings at once. Cancel a paid plan first. Public results stay available to anyone with the link, without any link to you.
- Guest data. If this browser still holds a guest session from before accounts were required, this page lets you delete it.
